Chippewa Valley Camp

Located on Riverview Road in the Brecksville Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks, Chippewa Valley Camp was home to the Playhouse Settlement (Karamu House)’s summer camp from 1923 to 1947. The camp was part of a broader collaboration between the Cleveland Metropolitan Park Board and the Cleveland Welfare Federation.

  1. I believe that Chippewa Valley Camp may have been a little further south than estimated. There is an old chimney at N41° 18.562′ W81° 35.830′ along the banks of a small stream about a half-mile south and paralleling Chippewa Creek, which may have been a part of the camp. This is a large flat area. Any further north is very hilly.

    1. Thank you. This is a good lead. We’ll try to establish the location with greater certainty, but in the meantime we’ll move the pin a little southward.
